LEGO® 928 Moonbase // Maya 2022 – Redshift 3.0.45 – NUKE 13.0v2

The intention of the course "Node-based Compositing" at the Mediadesign Hochschule is to teach my students a solid workflow for Maya, Redshift, and NUKE using AOVs with proper Color Management and Tone Mapping.

They've learned how to use and animate DoF in NUKE using a Depth channel and how to combine zDefocus with a high-quality Motion Vector Blur. I explained the importance but also the limitations of these methods compared to a rendered Bokeh and Motion Blur in Maya or other software.

Additionally, I showed them how to render sequences, organize the data with naming conventions in a project folder, and how to encode the files with Adobe Media Encoder adding a watermark to the final result.

And last but not least I showed them how to organize such a project virtually using Syncthing to work decentralized with synchronized data and how to use my studio render farm remotely with Chrome Remote Desktop from my home office.

We're living in exciting times. 🙂
